COVID-19 Booster Dose FAQs

COVID-19 booster doses are available at Our Medical for all eligible patients.

COVID-19 vaccine first and second doses are also available at Our Medical including Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Novavax and Moderna.*

COVID-19 booster dose

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) suggests the Pfizer, Moderna or Novavax vaccines for all booster doses, regardless of which vaccine was used for the first dose.

Patients may also receive the AstraZeneca vaccine as a booster dose. Our Medical advises patients to speak directly to their GP regarding booster doses, and to discuss any concerns.

Who is eligible for a COVID-19 booster vaccine?

Anyone who received their second COVID-19 vaccination at least 3 months ago is eligible for their booster dose. Immunocompromised individuals should consult with their GP.

Does it matter what first dose I had?

The booster dose uses the Pfizer, Moderna or Novavax COVID-19 vaccine and is available to individuals aged 18 and over (16+ for Pfizer) who received any COVID-19 vaccine, at least 3 months ago. The AstraZeneca vaccine may be used as a booster dose, though it is advised that patients speak to their GP first.

Aren’t two doses of the vaccine enough?

Evidence shows that vaccinations can wane over time and a COVID-19 booster dose increases your protection against the disease.

A booster dose is being encouraged as international and state borders open up, increasing the possible risk of exposure to COVID-19.

What COVID-19 vaccine will be used?

The Pfizer, Moderna and Novavax vaccines have been approved for the booster dose by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), regardless of what dose individuals had for their first primary doses. The AstraZeneca is available as a booster to those who cannot have an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer / Moderna), due to medical reasons. Over time ATARGI may make additional recommendations on booster vaccinations available.

Is a COVID-19 booster dose mandatory?

Although the COVID-19 booster dose is not currently mandatory in Australia, they are highly recommended to ensure a high level of protection against the disease.

What date was my last COVID-19 vaccine?

Individuals who are eligible to receive their booster dose will be contacted via SMS. You may also check your date of vaccination on your COVID-19 vaccination certificate.
